How much does a security camera installation cost in the GTA in 2026?

The Qoro teamJune 8, 20267 min read

If you're searching for what a security camera install actually costs in the Greater Toronto Area right now, you've probably noticed every site gives you a different answer. The honest reason: it depends on a handful of specific variables — and most quotes from "average price" articles online are either outdated, US-based, or written to sell you a specific brand.

We built Qoro to make tradesperson pricing in the GTA transparent. Here's a real breakdown for 2026, in Canadian dollars.

The short version

For most GTA homeowners, a typical residential security camera install — 2 to 4 cameras, a basic NVR or cloud system, and 1-2 hours of labour — runs between $400 and $1,400 total. Of that, labour is usually $150–$500 and the rest is equipment.

A larger setup (6+ cameras, smart features, integration with your existing alarm) can run $2,000 to $4,500. Commercial installs are an entirely different conversation and aren't covered here.

What drives the price

1. Number of cameras

The single biggest factor. Each camera adds roughly $90–$280 in equipment (depending on resolution and brand) plus 20–40 minutes of additional install time. A 4-camera install will almost always cost more in labour than two 2-camera installs at different times, even though it's the same total camera count, because cable runs scale with system complexity.

2. Wired vs wireless

Wired systems (PoE — Power over Ethernet) are more reliable, last longer, and are what most GTA installers prefer for residential work. They require running Cat6 cable through your walls, which adds labour time but means no batteries to replace, no Wi-Fi dropouts, and better video quality.

Wireless cameras (Ring, Arlo, Eufy battery models) are cheaper to install — sometimes the homeowner can do it themselves — but rely on your Wi-Fi network and batteries that need recharging. Most professional installers in the GTA will recommend wired for any install of more than 2 cameras.

3. Brand

The same physical install can cost $400 with a Reolink kit or $1,200 with a Hikvision or Lorex system. Mid-range professional brands (Lorex, Reolink, Amcrest) hit the price-performance sweet spot for most homeowners. Premium brands (Hikvision, Dahua, Axis) cost more but offer better low-light performance and 5+ year reliability — worth it if you're protecting a higher-value home.

4. NVR vs cloud

A network video recorder (NVR) sits in your home and stores video locally — no monthly fee, but the equipment costs $300–$600 upfront. Cloud subscription systems (Ring, Nest) have lower upfront costs but $50–$150/year in subscription fees that add up over the life of the system.

5. Installation complexity

Cable runs through finished walls (drilling, fishing wire, patching) cost more than runs through unfinished basements or attics. Pre-wiring during construction is dramatically cheaper than retrofitting an installed home. Older homes with plaster walls add labour time.

What you should not pay extra for

  • Mounting hardware. Decent installers include screws, anchors, and brackets in their quote. If they're itemizing $30 for mounting hardware on a $200 camera, that's a markup tactic.
  • "System programming" as a separate line item. Setting up the NVR or cloud account is part of the install, not an add-on.
  • Subscription fees from the installer. The cloud subscription, if you choose one, is between you and the camera company — your installer shouldn't be taking a cut.

How to know if a quote is fair

Get at least 3 quotes. Look for itemized line items showing what the camera costs and what the labour costs separately. A trustworthy installer will tell you exactly what brand they're using and let you Google it to verify the equipment price. They'll also walk through the install plan in plain English.

Avoid anyone who quotes a flat "complete install" number without breaking it down, or who pressures you to sign on the first visit.

The Qoro approach

On Qoro, you post your job once — describe what you want, share a photo of your home, and indicate whether you want the installer to supply the equipment or if you'll buy your own. Multiple verified providers in your area send you transparent quotes within minutes. You compare them side by side and pick the one that fits.

Every provider on Qoro is identity-checked and licence-verified before they can quote. Labour pricing is shown upfront. There's no upfront fee to post your job.
